This Weeks Scoop

Here’s the scoop for what you need to know to stay in the loop here at New Horizons.

-Food Pantry needs: Our food pantry is still in need of items. Our supply is low so please consider donating non-perishable items so that we can continue to help those in our neighborhood and community. If you choose to donate monetarily, please make note either on your check or through your Givelify donation that your giving is for the “food pantry.”

-Work Party: This Sunday, June 26th is our first work party. We will be outside giving our our property some TLC. We will start right after worship and work for a few hours. Feel free to bring yourself a snack and stay as long as you are able. We will have water available so feel free to bring your refillable water bottles with you.

-Graduates: If you graduated high school, college, or a different program this year, we’d like to celebrate with you. Please let Rose know as we will be celebrating our graduates Sunday, July 10th.

Our Summer Worship Series, “Building a Bigger Table” has been going well. This week we continue the building with “Finding the Right Material.” Join us for worship in person or online on our YouTube channel.

If you need anything, feel free to call the church office or contact Pastor Ali.

Needs and Reminders…

NHCC has some NEEDS right now…

We are in need of an Accompanist/Pianist to join our music team a few Sundays a month. Please click on the MUSIC tab for more information.

Our food pantry NEEDS restocked. Our ability to help families in need of food is very limited right now because our pantry is so low on items. If you are able to help, please bring donations to the church M-F between 8:30 am- Noon or Sunday mornings between 9 am and 1:00 pm. Items needed are peanut butter and jelly. Canned fruit, canned veggies, cereal, pancake mix, syrup, pasta sauce, noodles, granola bars, crackers and various dry good foods that don’t need to be refrigerated.

NHCC has some reminders for you as well…

We have a congregational meeting this Sunday the 19th at 10:30 am, to help the Search Committee continue their work.

There are two “Work Parties” planned – the first is Sunday June 26th right after worship. and the second is on Saturday July 9th from 9-Noon. Please come help us mow, prune, weed, and more so that we can spruce up the outside of our property. Contact our trustees if you have any questions.

A Much Needed Update!

Greetings Church!

In just a few short weeks we will be at the halfway mark of 2022 already. And what a wonderful first half of the year we have had here at New Horizons!

We rang in the new year focused on prayer with our “Let’s P.R.A.Y.” series. We then “Made Room for More” as we journeyed through the season of Lent. And despite some grey and snowy days in April, Easter was a wonderful celebration of new life in many ways.

While we were doing all of that in worship, many other great things were happening at NHCC as well. The Pulpit Search Committee was having meetings and making progress on the beginning steps of our search for the next settled pastor of this church. The clothing ministry saw an increase in visitors and donations. Hospitals changed their visitor policies, so I have been able to visit congregation members who were in the hospital for various reasons. We started helping the guidance counselor at the Betty Jane Learning Center, with a special incentive program called “OWL Bags.” These bags filled with special treats are to offer extra encouragement for student’s attendance at school each month. The Lord’s Workers class held their annual spaghetti dinner in March, and it was a huge success. The list goes on, but like I said, many good things have been happening in the life of this church.

So, as we enter the halfway mark of 2022, let us be filled with gratitude for what has already been while we prepare for all that is ahead for the summer season.

– On Sunday May 29th, Rev. Terry Bartlett will be our guest preacher that day.

– On Sunday June 5th, our 90th Anniversary Planning Team will be leading us in a special Pentecost worship service.

(I will be on vacation from Saturday May 28th to Saturday June 11th)

– On Sunday June 12th, we will start our summer series “Building a Bigger Table.” The inspiration for this series comes from the book, “Building a Bigger Table: Building Messy, Authentic, and Hopeful Spiritual Community,” by John Pavlovitz.

Sprinkled throughout the summer we will also have more “Coffee and Conversation,” gatherings. Weather permitting, we hope to have enjoy a few Drive-In Worship services out in our parking lot again this summer. Our community Garden has already begun the work of bringing their bountiful gardens to life for the first time on our church property. Our Pulpit Search Committee will continue to meet and do work for the search and call process. Our Anniversary planning group will keep working on the plans for our 90th Anniversary celebration in September. And even though there are more odds and ends I could add to the list, I think it’s safe to say we have a very abundant summer ahead for us.

So, as we start enjoying more sunshine, warmer temperatures and longer days, my hope is that this summer is a season of continued growth and life-giving experiences for all of us. May 2022 continue to be a fruitful and exciting year here at New Horizons Christian Church. Don’t hesitate to reach out to me if you need anything!

In grace and peace,

Pastor Ali
