Worship:

During worship this Sunday, January 17^th, we will hear about the Baptism of Jesus. Join us on our YouTube channel to worship with us. Worship services are made available online every Sunday morning at 9:00 am and can be accessed anytime after that.

Memorial Service Information:

The Candle family will hold a memorial service for Carroll Candle this Saturday January 16^th  at 12PM at the church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 11-12.  This memorial service will be recorded and made available for viewing online on the church’s YouTube page later in the afternoon Saturday.

Please do not attend either service if you are sick, not feeling well or if you know you have been exposed to the coronavirus. If you do come please wear a mask and practice social distancing. Masks will be available at the church if you need one. Thank you for supporting the Candle family at this very challenging time.

A Few More Things:

Portable DVD Players: Do you happen to have a portable DVD player that you are no longer in need of. We are looking for a few portable DVD players, the kind that you could take with you when you travel and that do NOT need plugged into the TV, for a few of our homebound members. IF you have one you would like to donate to the church please contact, Jim, Ali, or Valdene and let us know.

Do you know anyone would benefit from receiving a DVD of our worship services? If so, please let Jim or Ali know.

A Statement about the Events of January 6, 2021

            We are sure that you share our shock and dismay at the riots that took place at the Capital building on Wednesday January 6. None of us have ever seen something like this in our own country before taking place during a session of Congress.

            This isn’t a matter of whether or not you voted Republican or Democrat during the last election. Our church has voters for each political party, and we have always been impressed by the fact that we can still love each other even amidst such differences. We think it is fair to say that as Christians we have higher values and standards than any political affiliation that we might have.

            That’s why we were particularly disturbed to see some of the mob carrying flags and banners that read “Jesus.” Did they honestly believe that they were expressing their Christian faith by overpowering the Capital police, breaking windows, and threatening our elected officials? If they are following a Jesus that supports such actions, then their Jesus is not the Jesus of the Gospel. We pray that those who are not believers will not make an assumption that disciples of Jesus behave like those rioters did.

            We further pray that as part of a Christian community called the New Horizons Christian Church that we live lives of peace, humility, and love rather than violence and intimidation. As Paul encouraged us in Ephesians 4: “Lead a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called, ² with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, making every effort to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.”

A Few More Things…

Secret Sister Update: We have postponed our “Secret Sister Reveal,” until the month of March. Towards the end of March, weather permitting, we will hold and outside gathering to reveal who our Secret Sisters were this past year, as well as draw names for who our new Secret Sisters for this year. We are working on the details, but for now, keep praying for your current Secret Sister and we will share more information as we get our plans ironed out.

Worship and Wonder – Dorine Linnen will share a Worship and Wonder story on Sunday January 3 at 9AM on our Youtube Channel. Her story will be a great ending to the Christmas season as we transition to the season of Epiphany.

Memorial Service Information

As most of you have heard, the Candle family suffered a double loss in recent days as Bethany passed away on Saturday December 19 and Carroll died eight days later on December 27. Our hearts go out to the family even as we feel our own sense of loss.

Carroll’s service will be on Tuesday January 5 at 1PM with visitation from 12-1 at the church.

Bethany’s service will be on Saturday January 9 at 1PM with visitation from 11-1 at the church.

If you choose to attend either service, please only do so if you feel well enough. Also, mask wearing and social distancing are required.

CHRISTMAS EVE WORSHIP: Our special online Christmas Eve service will be on our YouTube channel by 5:00 pm this Thursday, December 24^th. This unique service will include some familiar faces, voices, special music, and conclude with our traditional singing of Silent Night. We hope you join us to celebrate the birth of Christ through this familiar yet unique worship experience.

This Sunday: This Sunday, December 27^th is Christmas Music Sunday at NHCC. Our online worship will be composed of all the Christmas music that has been in all our December worship services. There won’t be a sermon because the message is in the music. We hope you enjoy some sacred time listening to the music of NHCC.

Looking Ahead: Sunday, January 3^rd is Worship and Wonder Sunday. Dorine will bring us a beautiful version of the Christmas story through her storytelling with the Worship and Wonder story pictures, and figures. This online worship service will be available Sunday Dec.3^rd by 9:00 am.

It is with humble hearts that we thank you for the generous Christmas gifts that you gave the both of us. Throughout this year, time and time again you have given abundantly in so many ways. From sending cards in the mail, to giving food for the Blessing Box, to helping provide Christmas gifts and holiday meals, your generosity has been incredible. And the generosity was once again displayed abundantly when Valdene gave us our Christmas gifts from the congregation.

Thank you for your gifts and thank you for ALL that you do to share the love of God in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, with all the people you can.
