WORSHIP: Sunday March 7thth – The Third Sunday of Lent

The scripture this week is from Exodus 4. The sermon title is, “What’s in Your Hand?” The theme for this week is SELFAWARENESS and the object of focus for this week is a STICK or a TWIG.

Our Lenten series this year is inspired by the book “The Ultimate Exodus: Finding Freedom from what Enslaves you” written by Danielle Strickland.

LIVE STREAM WORSHIP REMINDER: We are now Live Streaming our worship services! Worship begins at 10:45 am on our YouTube channel. If you can’t tune it at 10:45, our worship service will still be available on our YouTube channel any time after 10:45 am Sunday mornings. If we have any technical problems, we will get the service on YouTube as soon as we can.

WORSHIP IN THE SANCTUARY:

The re-opening team has been meeting and has put a plan in place to begin phase one of holding in-person worship in the Sanctuary.

Beginning Sunday March 14th, those who feel comfortable may come to worship in person in the Sanctuary at the church. Worship begins at 10:45 am.

If you choose not to attend, ONLINE SERVICES WILL STILL BE AVAILABLE!!! Online services are here to stay. As long as our technology is working, you will always have that option. Please make the decision that is best for you.

If you do choose to attend in-person worship in the Sanctuary, these are the guidelines that you need to be aware of:

– Please RSVP to let us know you are planning to attend so that we can monitor the attendance numbers. Please call the church and leave a message on the machine or with Rose.

– You must wear a mask at all times when in the building.

– Please follow social distancing guidelines of keeping 6 feet apart.

– Please refrain from hugs and handshakes. (A friendly wave is a perfect alternative.)

– Please keep your coats and jackets with you. Do not hang them up or leave them in the Gathering Area.

– Please fellowship with one another outside in the parking lot rather than inside the building.

What to expect when you show up for worship:

We will have hand sanitizer stations in multiple locations throughout the building. Every other pew is roped off to keep with social distancing guidelines. There will not be congregational singing, or passing offering plates. A box for your offering will be inside the Sanctuary doors or you can give online. Individual communion cups will available for you to pick up before you enter the Sanctuary. Deacons will be in various places to help make sure you have what you need for worship. Our services will function very similar to our drive-in services we had this past summer.

Please remember that even our best laid plans could end up changing at the last minute. Should that happen, we will communicate that with all of you as quickly as possible. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Jim or Ali.

Prayer for the Third Sunday of Lent From Our Lent Devotional

 Written by Pat Burridge

Lord our God in heaven, hear our prayers. Help us to know what you would have us do. Even Moses was unsure until you worked your wonders through his staff to free your people.

We give you thanks for giving us your word that we may search and find your will for us. We give you thanks for your Son Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior who showed us how you would have us live. He promised to send a helper, the Holy Spirit, to live within each and every one of us. We pray that you awaken the Spirit within us to guide us in your word that we can continue to do your work here on hearth until Jesus returns.

And it is in His name we pray.  Amen

Prayer for the Second Sunday of Lent From our Lenten Devotional

Written by Valdene Barbuto

Most gracious heavenly Father,

Each day we are consumed with this world.  The daily news bombards our homes and our thoughts.  We worry and we pray to you to deliver us from a devastating pandemic, to provide jobs and economic relief to those in need, to provide leadership to a government in discord, to bring equity to people of all races and creeds.  The monumental concerns of every day are overwhelming and Lord we are tired. Too tired at times to be aware of the quite urging of your voice.

But Lord at this time we ask you to open our hearts and minds to You. Let us listen and trust your voice. Let us recognize the beauty in the world that you have given us. May we feel the love and caring that exists in your people.  Allow us to be truly open to the beauty that lives in your people and your creation.  May we recognize your hand in our lives and respond with devoted hearts.

Father give us the wisdom to know that we need to quite our minds, dampen our worries and reach out to you.  For the grace that you offer us is beyond our comprehension and far more than the world has to offer, for your love knows no limits.

In your son Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Prayer for First Sunday of Lent From our Lent Devotional

Written by Jim Bane

O Loving God, We confess that we are impatient and want instant improvements in our lives, our church, and every part of our world. We don’t like to take the long view. But Lent is a time to slow down and to set hurry aside, to recall that most of the significant things in life don’t happen overnight but over time.

Help us to learn the value of planting seeds – even seeds that will be harvested by someone else. Help us to recognize and celebrate the small changes and little improvements that we can make week by week. These small adjustments can lead to seismic shifts if given enough time.

Even your son began as a developing fetus in his mother’s womb and didn’t leap into our world as a thirty-year-old. Moses was a baby floating down the Nile River well before he emerged from the desert as the liberator of your people. And countless people played a role, both large and small, in assisting them with their chosen tasks.

So help us be patient yet also aware that our choices today can lead to big changes over time. May this Lenten season be an opportunity to see you at work in big but also small ways in our lives and our world.

In Your Son’s Name, AMEN

NHCC WOMEN’S GROUP ZOOM MEETING: Every Wednesday evening during Lent, from 7-8 pm, Ali will be leading a Zoom gathering for the women of NHCC. Ash Wednesday Service

We invite you to join us for our Ash Wednesday service today, Wednesday February 17th, online on our YouTube channel. It will be a simple yet meaningful service that will help us begin the season of Lent through prayer, scripture and communion.

The service will be made available online at 6:00pm. It will remain accessible online on our YouTube channel for several weeks.

If you picked up a Lent Devotional at the drive-thru even this past Sunday, you will need it for the service.

If you do not have the devotional, the following prayer will be read during the service and we invite you to read the prayer along with us.

Unison Prayer for Ash Wednesday

Hear our prayer, O God.

As disciples of Christ we might start using our hands, feet, money, time, and energy for the good of the poor, let us pray to the God of mercy.

That citizens everywhere may realize that care for their neighbor consists of more than mere giving of money, let us pray to the God of mercy.

For the needy, that they may not have to remain despondent and alone, let us pray to the God of mercy.

For all of us here that we may be honest enough to admit what we are selfish about, and what we can do to remedy our lack of love, let us pray to the God of mercy.

For those who share Christ’s charity toward sinners, let us pray to the God of mercy.

Merciful God, the ashes are our pledge to take up the cross of life. We came from earth and we will go back to it. In the meantime, beginning these forty days, we will try to live here and make it a better home for everybody.

Through Christ our Lord. Amen
