Worship Information for Sunday October 31st

This Sunday we will observe All Saint’s Day.

This week’s sermon title is: “By Faith”

Worship is every Sunday at 10:45 am in person or online. You are welcome to join us in person on Sunday mornings or online anytime!

Meetings:

Prayer Team will not meet be meeting this week.

Elder’s Meeting: Thursday, Nov. 4

Board Meeting: Tuesday Nov. 16th

Nominations: The elders are taking nominations for the following positions to be filled: Elders, Deacons, and Trustees.

If you would like to nominate someone to serve in one of these rolls or you would like to continue serving in one of these rolls, please fill out a nomination form and turn it in to the elders. You can also email Pastor Jim, Pastor Ali, or Valdene, the chair of the elders. We will be taking nominations until Sun. October 31st.

LOOKING AHEAD…

Church Communication Changes: Bulletins: Starting on the first Sunday in November, bulletins will be used during worship. Because of this change, we will no longer be sending out weekly blog updates.

Starting in November, our blog updates will change to monthly updates instead of weekly. Weekly church information will go in the bulletins. If you worship online, you can have the weekly bulletin emailed to you if you would like. Contact Rose to make sure she has your correct email address.

Website change: Starting November 1, we will finally be down to just one website. The web address is www.newhorizonschristianchurch.com If you are looking for church information, that’s where it will be.

Book Club: The Book Club will meet Mon. Nov. 15th at 6:00 pm. The book they are reading is Deadline by RANDY ALCORN.  Several books by that title. All are welcome. Please contact Kim Stimler with any questions.

Birthday Surprise: Kim Stimler is organizing a special birthday drive-by surprise for Vi Kristie. Keep you eye out for more details as we get closer to her b-day. Contact Kim for more information.

MASK REMINDER… According to the continued recommendations by the CDC and the Summit County Health Department, New Horizons continues to request that masks be worn while you are inside the church building. We want to make sure we are doing our part to protect one another. If you do not have a mask or forget yours, masks will be available.

IT’S NOMINATION TIME: The elders are taking nominations for the following positions to be filled: Elders, Deacons, and Trustees.

ALL SAINTS DAY: Sunday, October 31st is All Saints Day and we will be holding a special worship service that morning. We will be remembering our church members who have passed away this past year. SENSORY MAT ASSEMBLY: On Thursday November 11th at 6:00pm, we will meet at the church to make “Sensory Mats”.  These mats are for Summa Hospital patients who are struggling with head trauma, dementia, strokes and other health issues.  Everything is provided.  Please let Rose or Jeanine Harvey know if you can help.

THE HOLIDAY BIZARR: is on November 6th from 8:00AM-3:00PM.  This is being hosted by our Girl Scout Troop 90094. 

THE WEEKEND BACKPACK PROGRAM: We are in need of Peanut Butter and Jelly for weekend food bags that go the families at the Betty Jane Community Learning Center. Please drop your donations off in the big purple bin outside the Sanctuary. It will be marked “Backpack Food Program.” Please make sure the peanut butter and jelly are in plastic containers. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Helen or Jane.

BLESSING BOX: With colder temperatures headed our way, please remember to bring things for the blessing box that do not have liquid in them. Items with liquid in them will freeze and will no longer be able to be used. Thanks!

Donations Needed!  We are in need of Peanut Butter and Jelly for weekend food bags that go the families at the Betty Jane Community Learning Center. Please drop your donations off in the big purple bin outside the Sanctuary. It will be marked “Backpack Food Program.” Please make sure the peanut butter and jelly are in plastic containers. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Helen or Jane.

BUCKEYES!!!!  Not the football team but the delicious chocolate and peanut butter treats handmade by the Circle of Light ladies is what we are talking about. The last day to order your is Monday October 18th. They are $4.50 a dozen and you can contact Brenda to put in your order.

LOOKING AHEAD…

On Thursday November 11th at 6:00pm, we will meet at the church to make “Sensory Mats”.  These mats are for Summa Hospital patients who are struggling with head trauma, dementia, strokes and other health issues.  We need your help.  If you can come and cut material or sew, we need you.  Our goal is to make 30 mats.  Everything is provided.  Please let Rose or Jeanine Harvey know if you can help. Light refreshments will be served.

Do your Christmas shopping early… The Holiday Bazaar is on November 6th from 8:00AM-3:00PM.  This is being hosted by our Girl Scout Troop 90094.  Vendors will have homemade crafts, jewelry, wreaths, cards, towels, holiday decorations, and much, much more.  Yes, even baked goods! Rev. Doug Pfeiffer Visit :  Rev. Doug Pfeiffer of First Christian Church of Adel, Iowa will be attending worship with us this Sunday, October 10th to learn about some of our mission and outreach ministries. Doug would love to chat with some of our members after worship if you have the time.

We appreciate the Sunday School classes share their time so that we could remember, reminisce, and celebrate all the ways our church has been living our God’s call for us in mission and ministry. Communion reminder – This Sunday is World Communion Sunday. If you would like to bring your own communion with you to worship you are more than welcome to do that. We will have communion cups available for all who prefer those.

REMINDER ABOUT THIS SUNDAY’S GATHERING

What: A congregational gathering to reflect, remember, and share with one another the impact our church has had on us, our families, our neighborhood, and our community. We will do this by using Appreciative Inquiry questions. Our time of sharing will be a helpful resource for our Pulpit Search Committee when they being their work later this fall.

When: Sunday, October 3 at 9:30 am (during the Sunday School hour)

Where: In the Social Hall at New Horizons Christian Church

Who: Everyone in the congregation is invited!

Why: As we prepare for the change in pastoral leadership at the end of the year, it is important that we go through a healthy time of transition. This gathering is a wonderful way to begin the transition process.

We hope you will join us Oct. 3rd.  There will be coffee and some snacks. There will be social distancing and we ask that masks be worn. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Pastor Jim or Pastor Ali.
